Cherisse Datu

Raised on the island of Guam, Cherisse grew up with the impression that there were only 3 major professions: teacher, doctor, or office worker. Growing up, a Gameboy and its successive consoles were always in her backpack. When she went to study on the mainland, she discovered there are many more professions and fell in love with post-production.

After studying Film and Media Arts, she went on to work as an hourly news editor for Al Jazeera English before becoming the lead video editor for Al Jazeera English and later Al Jazeera America’s social media show,
The Stream

In 2015, she joined American University’s JoLT (Journalism and Leadership Transformation) fellowship to study the intersection of journalism and game design. During her fellowship, she discovered yet another profession exists in game design.

She worked as a designer and marketing producer for the Filipino-American indie game,
The Girl Who Sees. In addition, she created the game Factitious in conjunction with the American University Game Lab. She also piloted a “news park” pop-up in front of the Newseum in Washington, DC where passersby could play a card game about water conservation. News Park: Water Conservation was also showcased at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History for Climate Game Jam in 2016.

She also edited the Fusion’s 5 episode series on
Girl Gamers. After her fellowship, she worked as an Interactive Media Producer for ESPN’s The Undefeated (now Andscape) where she worked on various video initiatives for HBCU and Blerd culture.

In 2018, Cherisse joined Bethesda Softworks as Video Producer where she worked on multiple titles. She also was video lead on all mobile games such as Fallout: Shelter,
The Elder Scrolls: Blades, Mighty DOOM, and The Elder Scrolls: Castles

She worked on Fallout 76 during its launch and beyond - touching on multiple facets of production, from in-game screenshots, season trailers, to social media videos. Her most recent work was creating a 30-minute “Gone Fission” in-game fishing video for the Xbox pre-show showcase in 2025. During her time at Bethesda Softworks, Cherisse also created an in-house video project tracker with a JIRA developer that was later reproduced throughout the company.

Cherisse holds a Master’s Degree in Game Design and Bachelor of Arts in Film and Media from American University. She has spoken about journalism and game design at SxSW, GDC, and GEN Summit.

Cherisse really enjoys learning new software programs, solving a creative problem and seeing a project through to release. She’s eager to see what she can help you create.
